Most importantly, you must consider where your vehicle is parked during sunlight hours. Solar output limitations
If you have solar panels installed, you would have been given an estimate of how much energy your installation would generate or you have had solar panels for a while and know exactly how much energy they generate.
Consider you have an installation capable of generating 3,700 kWh per year. Also, although this will differ between summer and winter months, Statista research found that the UK average for daily sunlight in 2021 was 4.1 hours.
If we divide 3,700 kWH by 365 days to find the average daily generation (3,700 / 365 = 10.14 kWH)
To figure out hourly generation we can say 10.14 kWh divided by 4.1 daylight hours (10.14 / 4.1 = 2.47 kWH)
Your installation would roughly generate 2.47 kWH of energy per hour.
Now consider that EVs have batteries, sized between 18 kWH and 108+ KWH. To fully charge the batteries would take between 7 and 70 hours if you just relied on solar energy. This doesn’t include any usage in your home.
Battery storage output limitations
